Your retirement timeline
Federal age-based rules, dated to a birth month
Turns your birth month into the dates of every age-based retirement rule that applies to you. AboutLess
In plain words. Federal rules switch on at certain ages: extra retirement savings at 50, penalty-free withdrawals at 59½, Medicare at 65, required withdrawals at 73 or 75. Enter your birth month and this tool lists each one with the actual month and year it reaches you.
Why it matters. Most retirement mistakes are timing mistakes: signing up for Medicare late, taking a withdrawal a year too early, missing a required one. Seeing the dates in a row lets you plan the next few years instead of reacting to them.
An example. Someone born in June sees their Medicare window open the March before their 65th birthday and close the September after it, and their required withdrawals begin the year they turn 73 or 75, depending on their birth year.
Where it stops. These are federal rules only. Your employer's plan can have its own dates, and the tool does not know your benefits or balances, so it tells you when, not how much. Everything it leaves out.
Your birth month and year
The month is all the dates need. Nothing you type here leaves your browser.
This is a simplified model, not your actual tax return or plan. It only knows what you type in, leaves out rules that may apply to you, and cannot weigh the other facts and trade-offs a real decision depends on. Before you act, talk with a professional who knows your whole situation.
